Working at TrustBK

Help us create a simple and painless bank for small and medium businesses.

About us

We set ourselves a very ambitious goal: building a bank completely from scratch, step by step.

In order to this, we want to build the best team of there, capable of obtaining our banking license upon the French Regulatory Authority in less than 18 months. We are a very young company, so you’ll have the chance to join the project from its inception. You’ll work in a company with still no technical debt (it does not happen often) or internal administrative procedures. You’ll have carte blanche to define with us what our future bank will look like.

Our organisational structure is simple and efficient: those who make product decisions are the same ones who build them. We explain this in more detail in our Playbook.

Our office is located in the heart of Paris (métro Bonne Nouvelle or Poissonnière), and believe it or not, not far away from the historical headquarters of French traditional banks¹. We are surrounded by all that Paris has to offer: theatres, cinemas, coffee shops, bars and covered passages.

If you live far away from Paris, we are (semi-)remote friendly for some positions: we ask everyone to be on-site at least 3 days per week. We will cover your train tickets.

We offer a great package to all our employees including:

  • a competitive salary,
  • an awesome health coverage plan (Alan),
  • stock options,
  • public transport reimbursement (at 80%),
  • meal vouchers.

Which position are you interested in?

Android Engineer

You

You haven’t yet guessed the name of the next version of Android—even if you have a few ideas—but you’re hungry for everything concerning Android and its related subjects.

You’ve already participated in the development of several applications published in the Google Play Store. Big Android projects don’t scare you away. On the contrary, they motivate you. You can handle all aspects of an app, from data persistence to client/server communication, to the user interface. You’re autonomous and creative. You like interfaces that are pixel-aligned, obsessed with testing, and you’re uncompromising about the quality of the code.

If you are that person, we want to hear from you.

Role

As our first Android Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, developing and shipping our app on all Android devices. You will work closely with backend engineers to get the most of our internal APIs. You will ensure a high standard of coding, following best practices and continuous integration processes. In your apps, you will keep our core values in mind: usability, security and customer service.

Requirements

  • You have several years of experience in Java and Android development;
  • You speak Android SDK and Google Play Services is a second language;
  • You are familiar with the distribution process on the Google Play Store;
  • You attach great importance to spelling and grammar;
  • You have a decent written and spoken English;
  • You are autonomous and can prioritise well;
  • Experience with software engineering best practices (testing, code reviews, continuous integration…).

Backend Engineer

You

Hipster-organic-pixel-UI crafting is not really your thing. What you like to do is getting your hands dirty writing real code. You are production-oriented. You are extremely reliable and your tests will prove it every time. You won’t even raise an eyebrow if you are asked to build an API from scratch. You started using Rails or Django way before they started to be cool. Actually, Rails is the past, welcome Phoenix! And when comes the time of code refactoring, you tackle the problem without any problem: the only thing you hate more than PHP is technical debt.

Role

You will be in charge of the development of our Core Banking System, the central part of our tech stack, written with Elixir. We are building this entire tech stack completely from scratch, one brick at a time. On top of that, you will work closely with our frontend engineers to design the best banking API out there. With great power comes great responsibility: your work must be carefully tested. We iterate quickly and deploy our distributed components many times a day.

Requirements

  • Experience with software engineering best practices (testing, code reviews, continuous integration, design documentation…);
  • Experience with dynamic programming languages (Ruby, Python…) or functional programming (Elixir, Clojure…);
  • Experience with server-side development (Ruby on Rails, Phoenix);
  • Experience with design of APIs;
  • Perfect spelling and grammar in French;
  • Decent written and spoken English;
  • Self-organized with ability to prioritize tasks effectively.

Pluses

Previous experience in the banking or Fintech industry.

Banker — Business Manager

You

You are a banker and proud to be. No matter the clichés, you know you are not doing this for money. You are passionate about financial challenges and supporting companies is the main reason you love your job for. You know by heart all the details of every banking product: checking accounts, credit, factoring, cash management… You build long-term relationships with your customers, can identify their potential and support them when they need it. You have always considered yourself as a true financial partner and have never sold to your clients a product they didn’t need.

On top of that, you are being more and more frustrated by the internal processes you have to comply with. You hate to ask your clients to fill this new lengthy form sent by your legal department. Despite the administrative tasks you have to do, you always try to free as much time as possible to focus on the problems that really matter: your customers’. The in-house tools you use drive you crazy. You are strongly convinced that something better could be built without tremendous efforts.

If you are that person, we want to hear from you.

Role

As our first Banker, you will have 3 missions:

  1. You will bring your expertise to the rest of the team to design the best business banking product.
  2. You will also have the opportunity to design the tools you ever dreamed to use as a banker.
  3. Equipped with these new tools, you will identify and attract our first customers.

Requirements

  • You have a strong knowledge of the banking products used by SMEs;
  • You have a clear vision on what Bankers’ job should be;

Risk and Compliance Manager

You

On the contrary, you are strongly convinced that compliance is here to better protect customers and their money. You know Basel III rules by heart and you are not afraid of Mr. McDonough’s ratio. When it comes to applying a new directive, you always try to find common ground with the other teams. You are obsessed with offering the best user experience while respecting regulatory constraints. In short, you know how to combine pleasure and obligation.

You are not afraid by legal issues as in fact you like solving them. You know that knowledge of law is not only mandatory (“Nemo censetur ignorare legem” your uncle Aristotle used to say), it is also a real asset for the company. Instead of relying on lawyers’ advice only, you like to make your own opinion by reading the law yourself.

If this sounds like you, we have a job for you.

As Risk and Compliance Manager, you will be in charge of our banking license application upon the ACPR, the French Regulatory Authority. You will work closely with our law firm, our CFO and the rest of our teams to get our banking license as soon as possible. You know that credit production implies good and bad vintages, and you are here to mitigate this. You are not afraid of regulatory matters, and you actually find some sheer interest in them. You like to make your own mind on regulatory production, reading the texts directly. And when comes the time to apply a new directive, you always try and find a common ground with other stakeholders.

If you recognize yourself, we have a job for you.

Role

As a credit risk modelling manager, you will be in charge of building the credit risk scoring and monitoring model. You will propose the most adapted technical approach and develop a methodology of statistical modelling. You will work closely with the rest of the team to prepare our banking licence application. You

You may not have a 10-year experience in banking but you have always been a software engineer deep in your heart. You never miss the chance to write a few lines of code because you like coding as much as before. After a few years as software engineer, you took the lead of an engineering team. You help the team grow and thrive. iOS Engineer

You

You may have not bought the last AirPods but you’re eagerly waiting for the stability of Swift. You’re talking about your iOS bugs with you therapist, who happens to be Siri. You can’t wait for your bank to be compatible with Apple Pay. You have already built an app from scratch, shipped and distributed several apps through the App Store and you’re not afraid of large iOS projects. Marketing Manager

You

You never really understood all the hype and fuss around new marketing titles like Growth Hacker or Full-Stack Marketer. As a Marketing guy, the only thing that matters is spreading the good word about a product you really like and make sure as many people as possible are using it. You are curious and eager to learn. You always try to understand how things work behind the scenes to make sure you won’t say anything wrong.

You have a gentle laughter when one of your colleagues tells you “You see, I really like what Tesla does, they don’t need marketing to sell their products”, because you know that good marketing is a subtle one. You know how to pick efficient weapons while carefully keeping users’ perspective in mind. You have learned that outsourcing tasks to external agencies is OK, but doing things yourself is better.

You are familiar with common marketing channels and have a good knowledge of the Internet and mobile apps. You always measure the impact of your initiatives and crunch the related data for breakfast.

If this sounds like you, we have a job for you.

Role

Your mission won’t be an easy one. In fact, you will have to prepare the marketing launch of product, but it won’t happen before 18 months. You will have to start creating a brand and a community without having a live product. Impossible you say? We don’t see it that way. You will also have to identify the SMEs segment you will to target, because there can’t be a Marketing strategy without a market analysis.

True, B2B brands are often perceived as less trendy than their B2C counterparts. And yet the success of companies like Alan in the insurance industry proves the opposite. You have carte blanche to be at the centre of the same revolution in the banking industry.

Requirements

  • You have a 3-5 years experience in acquisition marketing;
  • Your spelling and grammar in French is perfect;
  • You have a decent written and spoken English;

You are extremely reliable and your tests will prove it every time. You won’t even raise an eyebrow when refactoring legacy code or mocking dusty SOAP services. Last week hacker-news-cool-kid-technology makes you smile, because you don’t buy their marketing. You want the source code, you want sustainability and you want facts.

If this sounds like you, we have a job for you.

Role

We need you to help us connect our Core Banking System (written with Elixir) to the external world. Without you, SEPA wire transfers or credit card payment won’t happen, which is a bit annoying when you want to become a bank. You are not afraid by old banking infrastructure because if other people manage to deal with them, why shouldn’t you? If you’ve ever wanted to make a wire transfer in a few seconds, it’ll soon be possible. Why? Because you’re going to make it happen and it’s going to be awesome.

  • Decent written and spoken English;
  • Self-organized and ability to prioritize tasks effectively.

If you are that person, we want to hear from you.

You will work closely with our different teams and will be in charge of recruiting new employees, a crucial topic to sustain the growth of the company. You will write and post job offers, source candidates, handle applications, organize onsite interviews and prepare job proposals.

In addition, you will do your best to find alternative ways to traditional hiring channels and thus improve our employment brand in order to naturally attract the best talents.

You will also guide new employees through the company, design and improve our onboarding kit and accelerate new team members’ integration.

These tasks will be the basis of your duties, new ones might be added according to the evolution of company, your desires and abilities. As an example, you could also work on organizing team events, improving offices design to optimize collaboration and focus, maintaining internal HR documentation up-to-date, setting up 360° reviews…

You like to set up servers and monitor them, as well as develop tools for the rest of the engineering team to make their life easier. You like to build the best environment to allow developers to deploy their code several times on a single day. You believe that everything could be automated, all manual work can be simplified and industrialised. Even though you are not an expert of penetration tests, you are very concerned about security, and you want to educate your colleagues on this issue.

If this sounds like you, we have a job for you.

Role

You will have the responsibility for developing a highly redundant infrastructure that needs to work 365/7/24. In the banking industry, it is a matter of life or death. You will work closely with the engineering team and provide them all the tools they need to test and deploy their work in a matter of minutes.
